About Multi Factor Authentication

What is Multi Factor Authentication (MFA)?

Multi-factor Authentication (MFA) is an authentication method that requires the user to provide two or more verification factors to gain access to a resource such as an application, online account, or a VPN. Rather than just asking for a username and password, MFA requires one or more additional verification factors, which decreases the likelihood of a successful cyber attack.

How Does MFA work?

MFA works by requiring additional verification information (factors). One of the most common MFA factors that users encounter are one-time passwords (OTP). OTPs are those 4-8 digit codes that you often receive via email, SMS or some sort of mobile app. With OTPs a new code is generated periodically or each time an authentication request is submitted. To gain access to your account with MFA, an attacker would not only need your password but also your MFA validator such as your mobile number, mobile device or email account to be successful.

How do you enable MFA in eMarketeer?

In eMarketeer you can

  • as a user, enable MFA for your personal login.
  • as an admin, enforce MFA on all users of the account.

Enable MFA for your personal user account

In eMarketeer, go to Account settings and “Edit my account”. There you can click to enable MFA.
This defaults to “Disabled” unless enforced to all users on the account.
When enabling MFA on your account, you will need to configure your authentication. This will happen the next time you log in to eMarketeer.
To do it now, log out of eMarketeer and log in again.

Enforce MFA for all users on your account (Admin privileges required)

In eMarketeer, go to Account settings and “User Accounts”.
There you have the option to enforce MFA to all users.
When enabled, all users will be prompted to go through the MFA set up process on their next login.
