GDPR goes live on May 25th, 2018. That’s when you need consent to send marketing emails (unless you can claim Legitimate Interest). eMarketeer will have a system to help you manage consent, but until that’s fully in place, you can still prepare and comply with GDPR right now.
These practices will help you get up and running in time.
Get consent
Use a checkbox in all your forms to get consent for e-marketing. This checkbox should not be pre-ticked and it needs to clearly state what the consent means.
Example: “Yes, please keep me updated with your newsletters, events, and product offers”.
Privacy Policy
Always have a link to your privacy policy which describes, in layman terms, how you handle data, what it’s used for and for how long it’s stored. You can also have a checkbox to consent to these terms.
Store consent
When the eMarketeer consent system is in place, you will be able to bulk update any selection of contacts in eMarketeer. This means you can go back to forms, select all contacts who gave consent and update the consent for them all at the same time. You can also create a custom checkbox on the contact card for consent today, and then let an automation tick the box when the contact gives consent via a form. This will then be easy to filter and update in bulk later.
